My name is Chloe and I am a fully qualified Speech and Language Therapist. I worked in the NHS for just over 4 years before moving to independent work when I had my daughter.
Through my NHS work I have been able to support children and families by providing assessment sessions, working 1:1 in therapy, delivering group therapy and providing training for parents and schools. I enjoy working with preschool and primary school aged children in their homes and education settings.
In addition, I am passionate about a more neurodiversity affirming approach to Speech and Language Therapy and working to promote equality within our service.
I made the move to private work to be able to offer high quality Speech and Language Therapy with early intervention and assessment, more frequent and effective therapy sessions and a more child and family centred approach.
Recently, I have also started volunteering at our local sling library. During my maternity leave I was supported by the sling library volunteers and wanted to volunteer to provide information and help to other parents.
Part of my continued professional development involves keeping up to date with the latest research, to the best of my ability, and using this to inform assessment and therapy practices.
I use research, training from experienced professionals and information from children, their families and adults who have experience with Speech, Language and Communication Difficulties to inform my practice and therapy approaches.
I am also registered with the HCPC and RCSLT to be able to practice.
To provide high quality Speech and Language Therapy to all families in the local area wanting support.
I want to be able to provide support through different avenues so our service is available to all and makes the biggest impact in a child's life.
I will continue to make the service more inclusive by engaging in neurodiversity and gender affirming learning in addition to engaging with anti-racism work.
Developing treatment pathways and recommendations in line with current evidence, not influenced by capacity.
Working towards providing a free to access part of the service from January 2025.
Using a total communication approach to therapy and completing the meaningful speech course for Gestalt Language Processors.
I was able to present information on the importance of early intervention for children with Down Syndrome in the Early Years. With this information, we had discussions about how to update our practice at my previous job to better support children with Down Syndrome.
I have worked with multiple children with Down Syndrome in the early years and beyond with their speech sounds, language development and AAC.
Children with Speech Sound Delays and Speech Sound Disorders have been a part of my caseload since qualifying as a Speech and Language Therapist.
When working with a child with Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia, I completed further training in addition to liaising with a specialist service to deliver more effective therapy.
I use the Palin PCI approach to create the most communication friendly environment for children who stammer, in addition to working with parents to implement appropriate direct strategies.
In my previous role, I created and proposed a new pathway for autistic children to increase their contacts, support AAC implementation and provide neurodiversity affirming therapy.
I am currently completing the Meaningful Speech training in Gestalt Language Processing.
Supporting children with Speech and Language Difficulties to be confident, happy communicators using a holistic strengths based approach.
