There are lots of resources out there to support children and families with Speech, Language and Communication Needs. It can sometimes get a bit confusing knowing if something is right for you and your child! 

I will always provide information on what other resources are out there to support you and your family. 

General Questions

Yes. I will always try to work with an NHS therapist to provide the best possible therapy for your child. 

We will be able to create joint goals, work towards the same outcomes and use the same approaches. 

Independent therapy can support NHS therapy by giving you input prior to initial assessment with the NHS, to increase the amount of sessions your child receives or to provide support to more people, in a wider range of settings.

There are lots of factors which contribute to whether your child would benefit from Speech and Language Therapy. 

These include the impact of any Speech and Language Difficulties on the child, how confident adults feel supporting the child and the type of Speech or Language Difficulty.

Speech and Language Difficulties often co-occur and other professionals can use the terms interchangably but...

Speech difficulties refer to any difficulties your child has with making a specific sound or using specific sounds in their everyday talking. 

Language difficulties refer to the words we use, how we use them and how we understand them. This includes the amount of words a child has, their use of words, their use of grammar and their understanding of words and sentences.
